Hat Toss

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

I’m currently looking for a good knitting pattern to make a Mary Tyler Moore style hat. One like the hat she throws in the opening sequence of the MTM show. Also I have plans in the works to make some scarves based on characters from Buffy.

Last week we got Steve and this week we get the Leighs. Also I took the plunge. Since Tom joined Facebook I figured I should too.

I’ve added a Knit page for images of things I’ve knitted. So far I have the bib I made and a baby sweater I’m working on.

Yarn

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

I picked up the yarn I needed on Thursday. I’d wanted to get something at Main Street Yarn in Mill Creek but they didn’t have what I needed. The pattern I have calls for size 13 needles. They had yarn for size 11 and 15 but no 13.

So I headed off to Michaels and got the exact stuff the pattern called for. It’s Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick. I bought three balls of it and two balls of another yarn.

The Wool-Ease is for a bag. I worked on it a little Thursday night and on Friday. The first two pieces are done. I just need to finish the strap. It’s quick to make so I’m almost done with it. I’ll need to go back and get a needle to sew it up.

The next project is for Baby Bockelie. Amanda asked if I could make something so I’ll buy yarn tomorrow for the project. It should go fast so I can also make a matching hat before the baby arrives. It’s going to be so exciting when she arrives. I can’t wait to see her!

We’ve been lazy this weekend. There wasn’t anything to go out and do so we watched movies at home. Last night we tried to go to the new Zoka but they were closed by the time we got there. It was only 9pm so they must close early.

Tonight we’re having burgers at J.P.’s parents house. If that doesn’t go too late then maybe we’ll try to find out what other people are doing.

So I had grand plans when I got up today. Since there were no BBQs to go to I was going to visit Village Yarn and Tea. They were having a Labor Day sale.

J.P. called yesterday and the woman said they’d be open until 5pm today. I arrived there shortly before 4pm and they were closed. It looked like they had been closed for a while. So I came home without any yarn.

J.P. was at work catching up on something he needed to finish. I had hoped to be working on my next knitting project. Instead I made coffee and watched Angel.

Then I had the great idea to grill bratwurst, but J.P. missed the message to bring home buns so we ate leftovers. Maybe we’ll do the BBQ thing tomorrow night.

Last night was fun. We used our new popcorn maker and invited Ben, Sam, and Tom over. We watched The Bourne Supremacy. They wanted a refresher before seeing the third one. J.P. and I might try to see the third one again.

In other news I have one maybe two more weeks before my job ends.

Update

The best album of 2007 so far is The Shins Wincing the Night Away. I got it a few weeks ago at Sonic Boom Records. It was so cool. It came with free mp3 downloads. I know a bunch of albums out there do but this was the first one I’ve purchased.

I listen to it all day at work and often put the album on when I get home. It’s really good. You should check it out if you don’t have it yet.

Yesterday I finished off the Colombia Llano Grande, Cup of Excellence 2007. It was the best coffee I’ve had in a long time and was well worth the $20/lb. Tom got us a grinder as a wedding gift and it was a perfect first grind.

To replace it I’m trying the Colombia Huila El Palacio. Jeff endorses it so it is well worth a try.

Recently I hauled out the scarf I started years ago and gave it another try. This time I got good results. I’ve moved on to making one in the basketweave stitch. This one hasn’t been quite as easy. Front and back keep getting switched. So it’s just a dry run for the real thing. J.P. has asked me to make him one.

Next weekend I plan to go to the Village Yarn and Tea in Shoreline. They’re having a yarn sale. I’ve got J.P.’s scarf and another project to work on. If those go well I’ll try to make leg wamers and then hopefully a sweater. I’m looking forward to fall so I can wear my creations.

Job ends this Friday. We’ll see what comes next.
