Summary

J.P. has been casually looking for a condo for over a year.  It wasn’t until about four weeks ago that he turned to me and said let’s buy a place right now.  So we got pre-qualified, got a pair of agents and stared off on this journey.

I pictured it taking a lot longer than it did.  It seemed like one day I was telling my parents we were looking and suddenly I was telling them we found a place.  We looked a bunch of resell places on the market.  The problem became when we decided we wanted a garage.  All the places with garages that we saw listed would have multiple offers the next day when we wanted to look at them.

We looked at some conversions.  They are apartments that are being converted to condos and town-homes.  We also looked at one place that was new construction.  The most recent phase of the new construction wouldn’t be done for months so they couldn’t tell us an actual price.

Fewer and fewer places within our price range were showing up so we decided to go back to one of the conversions.  It’s called Wildwood.  We looked at a couple similar units and picked one.  It has a larger window that the other one, but I guess is 40 sq. ft. smaller.

We’re waiting on finalizing which financing we’re going to go with and waiting for our appointment to pick out interiors.  After the interiors are installed we can move in.  All we need to do then is buy a fridge and we’re set.  They offered us fridges but they cost more than we figured we could buy one for.

Check back and I’ll try to update the major events of the first year in our new house.
